Weather Station Status

This page shows the current status of the weather software used in the operation of this website. If all of the first 3 files listed above are marked 'NOT Current' that means that these files haven't been updated as scheduled and the weather station is probably 'OFFLINE'.

If you arrived at this page because our main 'dashboard' page is flagged as 'Weather Station OFFLINE' it means data files have not been updated in over 30 minutes. (If the first 3 files above are marked 'Current', try refreshing the 'dashboard' (Home) page.)

An 'OFFLINE' condition can be caused by any of several things but most often by our internet service provider (Spectrum) being down. Next cause would be a power outage, also frequent in this area. Our weather computer will continue to run for a few hours on battery before it dies, power is restored or I am, or get, home and start the generator. Unfortunately when line power is out so will internet access even with the generator running. The actual weather station has its own battery backup and will last a day or more and will continue to collect high and low data for up to a week. There are always isues beyond our control such as when our web hoster's servers all crashed but those are few and far between.

As a note, even when our weather station is 'OFFLINE' many parts of the website, such as the forecasts, radar, metar reports (Danbury airport conditions) and the advisories pages, amoung others, will continue to work and be up to date.

Occasionaly a file will be marked 'NOT Current' but will only be a few minutes late and usually caused by a FTP glitch and is of no consequence. The 'Age' column will indicate when files were last uploaded.

Sometimes the 4th and 5th files (the 5th file, 'Weather Display Month Report', is not available on the first day of the month) will be marked 'NOT Current' but the other files will be 'Current'. The 4th and 5th files are only uploaded once a day, shortly after midnight, and can sometimes be just caused by a FTP glitch. This will only affect some of the historical statistics and will be corrected on the next nightly upload, the current conditions are provided by one of the first 3 data files and are not affected.

In some cases when the computer battery dies the weather software will crash and, sometimes if the software is writing to a file when this happens, can cause some of the historical data to become scrambled. I keep multiple backups but it can still take me several days to sort it all out.
